More about the Forum

As mentioned before, this is the ‘Heart of the Site’.  It consists of several sections, most of which contain several forums.  To read the forums, just click on one and it will display a number of topics.  Select a topic, click it, and you can read what the person who created it had to say, and what other people have said in reply.

In order for you to reply, or to create a topic of your own, you need to be a Registered User.  It is easy to register.  Just click on the ‘Register’ button at top right and then  read and agree to the forum rules.  Under some circumstances, we will waive the ‘Under 13 Rule’, but we will make announcements in the ‘Administrator’s Section’ as and when we decide on this.  The over 13 rule will NOT apply to ‘Family Groups’ (See below) where there is parental supervision.

After reading and accepting the rules, then please complete the form.  Very little of it is compulsory (Items marked *).  Your Username can be real or fictitious, but please give it some thought.

After that, everything should be self-explanatory.

UPLOADING IMAGES AND FILES
It is possible to add pictures to your posts which always makes them more interesting and informative.  The picture must be on your hard drive and must be in any one of the following file formats:-  jpg, jpeg, gif, png  and it must not be larger than 200Kb.  When you make your post you will see an icon of a tree with an ‘up arrow’ that says ‘Image upload’ when you hover over it.  Click this then browse to your picture file, click OK, then click OK on the message that comes up asking you to be patient.  The image should then upload and appear in your post.  If it doesn’t, please let us know.

FAMILY GROUPS.
We have never heard of any other web site or forum offering this.  It is a forum bearing your family name (see below) which is completely unique to your family.  If you want to invite everyone to a barbeque, that’s how to do it, and they can tell you whether or not they are coming and how many bottles they are bringing.  The possibilities are endless.  Save on Christmas Cards.

All the family groups are listed in the ‘Family Groups’ Section, but you can only see your own.  This is what you need to do to set it up.

Email us and ask us to set up the group.  To do this, you must live in Henllan and you automatically become the ‘Head’ of the group and control it.  You, and you alone, then give us the usernames of those people you want in your group, and we make the necessary adjustments to allow them into it.

When asking us to set up the group, you need to give us a group name.  The name should reflect the family name, but not be confined to it – after all, we don’t want the confusion of more than one Jones Family Group and the real risk of putting someone into the wrong family.  Instead, please use something like the “The Scattered Jones Family” – something imaginative and unique.  When asking us to add someone new to the group, be careful to use the exact group name – if we can’t find an exact match, we won’t do it.  And remember, only the Head of the group can request that a user be added.

The Admin staff are the only ones who can see your group apart from your group members.  They will look at it from time to time to ensure there are no objectionable posts, but they will always consider anything they see to be subject to the very strictest confidentiality rules.

OTHER GROUPS.
In exactly the same way as we can have Family Groups, we can have other groups of people with similar interests, provided they are based in, or relevant to, Henllan.  This can include Football Clubs, Women’s Institute, Keen Gardeners, Ramblers, anything.  Again, it needs a Head and the Head must either live in Henllan or be running some sort of activity directly involving Henllan.

Just email us with the same info needed for Family groups.
