Vanishing of the bees
film
58 people attended 'The
Vanishing Bees' film at Henllan school on Sat
the 16th of January 2010!
Henllan Conservation Group and Cadwyn Clwyd have
awarded the contract to execute the project to
the North Wales Wildlife Trust. Simon Farr from
NWWT came to watch the film and say a few words.
NWWT will be running a further launch in the
very near future.
The 2 adult tickets to Chester Zoo were won by
Dave Sherman. Dave and his wife enjoy visiting
Zoos and Wildlife Reserves. One of Dave's
Christmas presents was the adoption of a penguin
at Chester Zoo, so he is looking forward to
visiting the Zoo very much. Perhaps his penguin
will wave at him!
The photo shows Simon Farr (left) from North
Wales Wildlife Trust, presenting the 2 adult
tickets to Chester Zoo to the winner of the free
prize draw, Dave Sherman.
Dave also won a conservation themed hamper in
the raffle.
Gaynor Kumria & Bronwen Woodcock were very busy
selling cakes on behalf of the WI. The profits
will be put aside by the WI to be spent on items
relating to the Henllan Bee Project at a later
date (maybe seeds after inspiration from the
'Gardening to support the bees & pollinating
insects' workshop.) The photo shows Gaynor
Kumria manning the WI cake stall.
A wide range of refreshments were available at
cost price, including ice creams at the
interval. The photo shows happy customers
enjoying the home made cake with a cup of tea

Planting
day at the church Yard & Institute
Thank you to all our helpers
at the planting day. 20 adults and 10 children
turned up on a lovely sunny afternoon to plant
120 cowslips on the banks in the church yard. We
hope they will bring enjoyment to many people as
well as early nectar for the bees.
After planting, copious amounts of tea, ribena,
and home made cakes were consumed. Refreshments
were free, and as a further 'thank you',
participants were given a bee friendly plant
('Bugle') to take home for their gardens. There
will be free gifts at many of the workshops /
events. Keep checking in the Post Office window
/ Henllan website for details of further events.
The next workshop is in 2 weeks. We hope to see
you there!
Helen, Chair of Henllan Conservation Group.

Pictures form The Fruit Tree
Workshop 1, followed by Gardening Workshop 1
'The 'Fruit Tree Workshop 1' on the 22nd
April 2010 was well attended by 10 children and 16 adults,
with a few others turning up at the end to take home an
apple tree which had been prepared for them.
Participants eagerly grafted their own tree, chosing between
a small tree to keep in a pot, or a standard tree to grow in
the ground / espalier. We were able to take home an eater
('Search no more') or a cooker ('Forge'). Now we just have
to keep them alive! A thread has been posted on this site so
that we can all help each other to care for 'The Henllan
Orchard'. '
'Helen & Veronica manned a table at the Llanasa Bee Festival on a lovely sunny Sunday 24th April 2010.
