No, not sad. Its just an extra thing to celebrate on top of the fact that its the weekend! Any excuse for wine is a good excuse

Couldn't resist the temptation to reverse my self imposed embargo of the forum(for undisclosable reasons) to join this one.

I am reliably informed that the refuse gangs in Henllan this morning came from.....

.......wait for it...

...Llangollen!

Also, did anyone else count the number of vehicles? In Meifod Road at 9 o'clock I counted no less than three.

And then these idiots in power lecture us about not wasting resources.

It was a close-run thing, Duncan... Got the bags out at 8-20am, telling everybody "They won't be here for hours yet!". And they arrived five minutes later.  Just proves it isn't wise to underestimate "Mr Miller's Men". Even if they do come from Llangollen, and there were at one point apparently rather more of them about than there are residents in Henllan

I wrote to the 'Waste Department' on the 21st May to query that putting the bags out before 7am was in contravention of the county council's own bye-laws that this was illegal, and to do so would incurr pecuniary penalties for being in breach of fly-tipping regulations.

I received a same day 'auto generated response' to say that I would be contacted within 10 working days - and guess what, I'M STILL WAITING!!!!

Lost the letter now, but If I remember rightly, the instruction was that bags were to be out by 7am "on the day of collection", which is a pretty tall order for many especially the elderly or those reliant on carers.

For those of us who keep lateish hours, however, it occurs to me that if one is prepared to accept the nuisance, and possible unpopularity, of having bags torn open by nocturnal scavangers, it would be within the letter of the law to put bags out at five minutes past midnight on Friday morning, which is certainly the "day of collection, before 7am."

Presumably, once we have wheelie bins, there could be no sustainable objection at all to this.

I shudder to think where all this is leading. I envisage the time when refuse "collectors" will no longer collect due to "health and safety"; we will ALL have to take our own refuse to wherever it goes and we will be charged heavily for that "service" over and above the council tax.

We now have this fortnightly collection in Llandudno, same times etc with the added problem of seagulls getting into everything and the local cats having a quick squirt at the boxes and green plastic bag for paper-- just glad we dont keep our recycling boxes in the house, or we should be stunk out!

I'M STILL WAITING!!!!!!!

If anyone feels the need to report problems direct this is the email address to use - forget the customer service centre, that route will need more than GPS tracking to find its way.

I will find it impossible to get my wheelie bins from the back of my property to the front, narrow passageways, steps etc. This collection is fine for those people living on modern estates etc but in older parts of towns an villages it's going to be a nightmare for some. And I REFUSE  to keep them outside the front of my property, it looks awful. Suppose I'll have a battle to fight with Waste Maanagement over this when we get the x2 scheme but also surely the elderly and disabled will find it a problem too? A half full bin bag is easier to put out than a massive plastic bin???

Up in gloomy lacashire most of the people have three and sometimes four wheelie bins to contend with. Recycling is the buzz word up here, but i have been informed that after it is collected on god knows how many different days it all gets thrown in the same landfill..

Seeing to be doing.  Lets hope the councils of north wales arn't as silly.

Car boot sales and church jumbles are a good way to recycle.

Did you here about the irishman who went to a car boot sale?

He reversed in and sold his engine

Wheelie bins, Snowdrop, are a whole can of worms (so as to speak) in themselves. I had them in my previous home. They are almost impossible to move when full, especially if steps are involved. They have to be placed at the edge of the pavement (not causing an obstruction) facing the right way round.  Bin men will not take anything which doesn't fit in the wheelie bin, so no cardboard boxes etc. They won't take any "overflow" black sacks. They put the empty bins back in the wrong order, so you have to "chase" your bin along the street. Kids set them on fire (though maybe not in Henllan...).

Well as you are probably aware by now that the invasion of the Wheelie bin took place this week. Many people are so proud of them that they are on full display in front of their properties. Obviously the council haven't realised that many properties cannot get the bins around the back.

I am informed that if this is the case that the affected parties can stay on Sacks.

Fortnightly collections have now been imposed on us (except for food waste).

My main concern with these bins is that they are "Tagged"

If you look at the side of the "general rubbish" bin and the "green waste" bin they have barcodes on the side which identify the electronic chip which is behind the little black cover under the front lip of the bin.

This brings a couple of questions to mind;

Are these tags in place in case a joyrider steals the bin to razz around the village in the dead of night and the police can track it in a high speed persuit?

Are the collection vehicles fitted with the very accurate weighing systems which were shown on the TV program from Scunthorpe?

Are we (in the future) going to be charged for what they collect in a "Pay as you throw" type charging system?

If they do, Will there be a reduction in the council Tax?

Many questions I know, but i doubt that the tags are in there for any other reason than to open another avenue for the local authority to legally Rob you on behalf of HM Treasury!

Is that No, never

or No not at the moment?

If it is No Never then that is good news. A lot of Councils have rejected the proposals to encourage more re cycling.

Hopefully Denbighshire will follow suit.

No with current technology, can't predict what the future will hold.

I don't think we can argue that we shouldn't be recycling more, we can't just produce things and then bury them in the ground when we've had our use of it !  Surely we've done enough of that, Henllan Tip being a prime example of that.

I'm all for recycling and strongly agree that we should re cycle a lot more than we do at present.

The councils are now under the spotlight in the media for buying wheelie bins which are chipped.

If the Council are adamant that they won't be adopting a "Pay as You Throw" charging system then I'm sure that they won't mind me popping their Microchips in an envelope and posting them through their door one morning like a number of residents in Denbigh have done already.

Where are the bins located ?  Some of us are still waiting  Still they more or less completed today's collection by mid-afternoon.... What used to take one wagon and and one truck, with three men to do in two hours, now apparently takes two wagons and one truck, with six men  six and a half hours.... Progress?
