I have been tracing my family tree for a few years now, that's when I found this forum. My family had been living at Lon Fain on the 1901 census which I was informed were almshouses and no loger exists. Anyhow I have now sucessfully traced the Denbighshire line of my tree back to 1735 with the help of people from here and eleswhere and would like to thank them for their info and research.

Briefly my Gt grandfather left N Wales to settle and live in S Wales but never spoke of the family he  left behind again and so all contact was lost which made it more difficult to find any information. He was living with his family on the 1901 census in Henllan. I now have information that I am descended from a well known Wesleyan minister the Rev. William Batten c1778 - 1864 who  held ministry at the chapel in Henllan. I didn't realise there was a Wesleyan chapel there? The strange thing is that I moved back to Ruthin for a few years before I had found out that my descendants were from Denbigh. I always felt at home whilst visiting Denbigh ....and I now know why.

Its great when things come together! There can be a lot of pleasure in doing your family history but also the occasional shock!

Lodas of Battens around the Denbigh areaa when I was at school and now either as surname or hyphenated
e.g. Batten Evans,Batten - Jones...
There was a girl in my class in Denbigh Grammar School  - I saw her ~ 2 years ago,  and she was a Batten at school  but married now in Wrexham?? so I dont know her surname. Christian name was Adele.

I have a recollection of a fairly large 'Monumental Mason' company in Denbigh called   Batten near Lenten Pool.
