What is Henllan Junior Football Club?
HJFC
was formed through an initiative by Henllan Senior Club and Mr
Tony Sheridan, to provide a junior football club for Henllan and
the surrounding area. Since then it has also become a registered
charity and set up it’s own organising committee including trained
managers/coaches. All managers/coaches and members of the
committee are volunteers.

Is HJFC in a League?
We are
part of the Rhyl and District Junior Football League that covers
an area within a 12 mile radius of Rhyl town clock (www.rdjfl.ik.com).
RDJFL is part of the FAW (Football Association of Wales) and the
North Wales Coast Football Association. Football is played on
local council and education pitches within the Laws of the game
and in accordance with the recommendations of the Football
Association of Wales. We are part of the RESPECT programme that
promotes respect, fair play and honesty. We are proud of the
behaviour of our players, parents, managers and coaches.
Who can play for HJFC?
We are
open to all children, aged 7 – 15, in the Henllan and surrounding
areas, irrespective of class, creed, gender, disability, colour or
religion. We do not hold trials, children of all abilities are
welcome. Should a child who lives outside the boundary for RDJFL,
wish to join the club then this is only possible if there isn’t a
suitable club within their own area.
If we
are unable to find a place within the club (ie. We don’t have
enough coaches, etc), then we will do our best to help find a
suitable alternative.
We ask
that all parents/guardians fill out an information form about each
child. These details are used by the coaches to determine the
appropriate age group and also to ensure that medical requirements
and contact details are known. This information is not passed
onto to any third party and is kept in confidence.
Children who only wish to attend training sessions are welcome.
Those children who wish to play in league matches, must be
registered with the league – forms are available from the coaches.
What about the Matches?
Within
the league, each age group has a cup competition as well as league
matches. As a club, we also try to play friendly games with teams
outside the league and full day tournaments, including the summer
league tournament. We hold an awards event at the end of each
season.
All
age groups under 11 (primary school age) are played as 8 aside fun
football with smaller pitches, equipment and fewer rules (eg no
off-side rule). The matches are played on a Sunday morning and
refereed by unpaid volunteers. The duration of the matches are
between 20 and 30 mins each way, depending upon the age group.
All
age groups above 11 (secondary school age) are played as 11 aside,
with full sized pitches, equipment and FA rules (incl red & yellow
cards). The matches are played on a Saturday morning and refereed
by trained & paid referees. The duration of the matches start at
30 mins each way.
The
club provide the football kit (shorts, top and socks) for matches
and also a drink. Children must always bring shin pads and
suitable football boots. Suitable clothing for the weather (e.g.
jackets, vests, etc) must also be worn.
The
club are not able to provide transport to matches. Parents and
friends are encouraged to attend matches. Though anyone who is
abusive or aggressive will be asked to leave. It should also be
noted that photography (including video) is not allowed.
Who does the coaching?
Each
team has a coach/manager, though there are additional coaches at
training sessions. Each of the coaches/managers is a volunteer,
who has undergone training (from the FAW) and has been subject to
a CRB check. We like to report match results in the local
newspapers and may occasionally take team photographs (though no
names are included) for publication. If you have any objections
then please contact the team manager, or other club official.
What happens at the training sessions?
Training sessions are 1 hour long, every Friday during term time and
consist of a warm up, followed by skills training and then usually
a short 15 min game. For primary school age, we do not include
fitness training, as they are not physically ready for such
development.
We do
not train during school holidays. During the Summer months the
training is at Top Park, Henllan. During the winter months the
training moves to Denbigh Sports Centre Astro Turf. Should a training session be cancelled, we will do our
best to let you know as soon as possible.
We
provide water to drink and all the training equipment needed.
Children should wear suitable clothing for the weather as well as
shin pads (at all times). When at Top Park, studs or blades can
be worn, however when at the all weather pitch studs and blades
are NOT allowed.
Parents are encouraged to stay during the training sessions.
How is the club funded?
Our
income is derived from donations, grants, registration fees (£10)
and weekly subscriptions (£1 each training session). This money
is used to pay towards the cost of League registration fees,
tournament fees, pitch hire, equipment, kit, training and referees
fees. We currently have sponsorship for the kits of two teams.
As a registered charity we can recover the tax for any donations
paid to the club, providing that a declaration form has been
signed.
