An Evening of Dance with a
difference is coming to Henllan Institute on Saturday 31st
May, hosted by Clerical Error Border Morris Dancers, from Ysceifiog.
But hankies will remain firmly
in pockets, and don’t expect skipping: Welsh Border Morris
traditionally involves noisily clashing sticks, and it’s as fun and
exhilarating to perform as it is to watch.
With this is mind, people will
be encouraged to get up and have a go at some of the simpler dances,
as well as watching Clerical Error in their spectacular outfits.
A hot supper and soft drinks
are included, and for those who want still more action, the band
will supply the music for a bit of ceilidh dancing to round off the
evening.
The emphasis will be on fun
and informality, and all ages are welcome, though dancing with the
sticks isn’t suitable for children younger than eight or nine.
However, anyone – the young, or those who perhaps feel that their
dancing days are behind them – can come and enjoy both the
traditional music and the spectacle of friends and family doing
something they’ve never tried before while waving a pickaxe handle!
You can have your face painted in traditional style, and of course
there’s the supper, and the ceilidh dancing, which everyone can join
in with!
Proceeds will go to the
Institute’s Restoration Fund. An Evening of Dance held last year
proved to be great fun: this one looks equally good. Maybe Summer
Dancing in Henllan will become an annual fixture.
Start time will be 6.30pm.
Tickets £5 (£2 for primary-age children) from Charlotte on 01745
815976.
